Once Again, The Reserve Creates a Wimbledon-like Grass Tennis Court on the Great Lawn

Last summer the grass tennis court was such a big hit that we decided to make it happen again this year during the excitement of the Wimbledon tournament.

The official opening of the grass tennis court on the Great Lawn was held on Monday, July 2nd to coincide with the first day of Wimbledon. “We enjoyed the excitement and amount of play on the grass-court last summer that we just couldn’t pass up another opportunity to offer this one-of-a-kind amenity for our members. This is made possible by the cooperation and hard work of our Director of Tennis, Mike Lissner and his Assistant and wife, Chrissie Lissner as well as a team from our Golf maintenance grounds crew” says General Manager, David Fleming.

For almost 3 weeks the court has been open for complimentary clinics, open play, and our 2nd Annual Great Lawn Tennis Championship. During the clinics, Mike and Chrissie teach the differences of playing on a grass court.

Mike says “The game of tennis started on a grass court so it’s great for our tennis enthusiasts to experience first hand how this game began and take on a new challenge. We teach them that the style of game is very different from what they see on hard or clay courts. I think they gain some understanding of what the tour professionals at Wimbledon experience after playing on our grass court.”

The Reserve Wimbledon Courts

Over the weekend of July 13-15, Reserve tennis members enjoyed some friendly yet competitive play in our 2nd Annual Great Lawn Tennis Championship. This year’s event included three divisions of match play in Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, and Men’s Doubles.

We had close to 70 players and spectators who enjoyed a garden party of champagne, strawberries and delicious hors d’oeuvres on the Great Lawn. Karen Peel prevailed as our Singles Champion, In Women’s & Men’s Doubles a match tie-breaker decided the winners, Karen Kurkcu and Pam Cabot, and Cengiz Kurkcu and Kent McKinney. Congrats & thank you to to all who participated and attended this great event.

The court will remain open for play through the last weekend in July.

At The Reserve, we take a lot of pride in our tennis courts, and being able to offer this experience takes our tennis to a whole new level. We are always looking for ways to engage our members on and off the court.

The Reserve has some of the best tennis players in the south, but this annual championship isn’t about skill, it’s about the people in our community. If you have any questions about The Reserve or want to learn more about our members or our amenities, please feel free to call one of our team members. We would love to show you everything we have to offer.
